Meet Our Oxford Canopies: A Flexible Canopy Solution for a Wide Range of Environments
Our Oxford Canopy designs are fully bespoke, with each canopy individually made to measure and carefully designed to meet the specific requirements of any location. The range can be fabricated, generally, in three main styles, a barrel vault style, a lean-to style, or a cantilever style, sometimes as a combination of two styles, or all three styles in one canopy should circumstances dictate, there are many scenarios in which our Oxford style canopies can be utilised.
Barrel Vault Canopies: Oxford and Oxford XL
These canopies are for use where additional coverage, wider span width or enhanced protection is a requirement.
The Oxford Barrel Vault canopy features a low‑rise curved roof profile, with the eaves brought down on either side. The design provides increased protection from wind and rain in exposed locations whilst still allowing good levels of natural daylight, making it particularly suitable for school playgrounds, outdoor learning and covered walkway canopies. The trellis arch design allows for the integration of signage, artwork or sensory features, which is why it is frequently selected for primary school and early years environments.
The Oxford XL Barrel Vault canopy is our largest-span canopy structure, well suited to projects when the requirement is to cover a large expanse of area, examples of which are outdoor dining and social areas, loading bay/warehousing areas, or car shelter covers. The large columns allow the eave heights to be aligned with the existing buildings or clearance requirements, creating a seamless connection between the internal and external environments.
Both Barrel Vault options are manufactured using UKCA‑marked structural steel and designed in accordance with current British Standards for wind and snow loading, ensuring they perform reliably as an all-weather solution suitable for year‑round use.
Typical Oxford Canopy Uses
Oxford canopies are used in a wide range of settings where shelter, circulation and protected external space are required. Common uses include:
- Requirement for sheltered arrival and departure areas
- Covered walkway canopies linking multiple buildings
- Outdoor learning and play canopies for schools and nurseries
- Outdoor dining and social areas
- Industrial and logistics canopies, for covering externally stored goods/equipment, or lorry loading cover
- Retail and garden centre canopies for customers, staff and displays
Cladding Options and Canopy Features
Oxford canopies can be clad either in a polycarbonate cladding (opal or clear) or a PVC fabric option which provides a fully waterproof and flame‑retardant solution.
Optional features include side panels in glass or polycarbonate finish to improve protection from wind and rain, as well as integrated canopy lighting (which can be done via your third-party contractor). For education settings, bespoke branding such as school logos incorporated into fabric canopies can also be included.
Designed Around Your Site
Oxford canopies can be designed as free‑standing canopies or wall‑mounted canopy structures and are frequently adapted to work around site constraints such as existing buildings, boundaries or underground services. Mild steel can be powder coated to any BS or RAL colour (some colours may constitute an additional cost), ensuring the canopy complements surrounding architecture or organisational branding.
This site‑led approach ensures each Oxford canopy is practical, proportionate and suited to its environment, rather than a fixed off‑the‑shelf solution.
